Human Design chart online: how it is calculated and how to read it
Our Human Design chart online uses the sky at two moments, your birth and the moment the Sun stood 88° earlier, to place 13 bodies in gates. The positions are calculated; the descriptions are general wording from the tradition.
What it is
Human Design is a system that reads a birth chart in its own way. It uses the positions of the Sun, the Moon and the planets at two moments: your birth, called Personality, and an earlier moment, called Design.
The Design moment is found from the Sun. It is the instant when the Sun stood 88° of the zodiac behind its position at your birth. That is roughly 88 days earlier, but not exactly: the Sun does not move at an even speed through the year, so the tool solves for the moment instead of counting 88 days.
At each moment the tool takes 13 bodies: the Sun, Earth, the Moon, the North Node, the South Node, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Earth is placed opposite the Sun, and the South Node opposite the North Node. The node used is the true lunar node.
The zodiac is divided into 64 equal parts called gates, in a fixed order that starts with Gate 41 at 2°00′ Aquarius. Each gate has six lines. At each of the two moments every body falls on one gate and one line. That gives 26 placements, called activations.
From these 26 activations the tool applies fixed rules to find which of the nine centres are defined, which channels join them, and your Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile and Definition. The rules belong to the Human Design system. The tool applies them; it does not invent them.
Two things are kept apart here. The positions are astronomy and can be checked. The rules that turn them into a Type or an Authority belong to a tradition of interpretation, which is neither science nor prediction.
The descriptions of types, centres, gates and channels are general wording from the tradition, prepared in advance. They are the same for everyone whose chart has the same type, centre, channel or gate, and they are not written about you personally.
How it works, step by step
- Enter your birth date. The year list starts at 1900, and the tool accepts births from 1800 to 2100.
- Add the time of birth if you know it. If you add a time, you also need the time zone of the birthplace; choosing the city sets it. The place is used only for its time zone.
- Press Calculate. Our server turns your local time into universal time with a time-zone database, finds the Design moment, calculates the positions and sends the chart back.
- Look at the bodygraph: nine centres, defined or undefined, and the channels between them. Select a centre or a channel to read about it.
- Read the summary: Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile and Definition.
- Open the activations to see the gate and line of each of the 26 placements, and the date of the Design moment.
How to read your chart
Start with Type and Strategy, then Authority. They come from which centres are defined and how the defined channels connect them.
Next, Profile. It is two numbers: the line of the Sun at the Personality moment, then the line of the Sun at the Design moment. A Profile of 3/5 means line 3, then line 5.
Then Definition: how many separate groups the defined centres form. Single means one connected group; split, triple split and quadruple split mean two, three and four.
Last, the activations. Everything above is derived from them, so you can trace each result back to a gate and a line.
Take each description as one angle to think with, not as a verdict.
What it can do
- Calculate a chart from a birth date, with or without the time and the place.
- Show 26 activations: 13 bodies at the Personality moment and 13 at the Design moment, each with its gate and line.
- Draw the bodygraph with the nine centres and the defined channels.
- Show Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile and Definition.
- Tell you when no time was given that the chart is for noon, and that Type, Authority and even Profile are provisional.
What it cannot do
- It does not predict events and does not describe you as a fact.
- Without a birth time it uses noon, and the real time may give a different Type, Authority or Profile.
- Even an approximate time matters. The Moon moves quickly, and a difference of an hour or two can occasionally change a gate, and with it the Type or Authority.
- The place of birth does not change the chart. Only its time zone does.
- It does not save charts. When you close or reload the page, the chart is gone.
- The descriptions are general wording from the tradition, the same for everyone whose chart has the same element. They are not a personal reading.
Who it is for
People who have heard of Human Design and want to see how a chart is built from a birth date. People who want a chart to look at before talking to someone who works with the system. It is not a tool for decisions about health, law or money.
Questions and answers
What do I need to enter?
Only the birth date is required. The time is optional but matters. If you add a time, you must also give the time zone of the birthplace, and choosing the city does that. The place itself is used only for its time zone.
What if I do not know my birth time?
Leave it empty. The chart is then calculated for noon, and it says so. Type, Authority and even Profile depend on the time, so treat them as provisional until you know it.
How accurate is the calculation?
In our tests the tool reproduces, exactly, all 130 activations of five reference charts taken from another program’s published tests. That shows our method agrees with that program on those five births. It is not a promise for every birth.
Is my birth data saved?
No. It goes to our server only to calculate the chart and comes back in the answer. The server keeps no copy and no cache, for signed-in visitors too, and the chart exists only on your screen.
Are the descriptions about me?
No. They are general wording from the tradition, prepared in advance and the same for everyone whose chart has the same type, centre, channel or gate. They are not written about you personally. Use them for reflection and entertainment.
Why 88 degrees, and not 88 days?
The system defines the Design moment by the Sun standing 88° earlier in the zodiac. The Sun’s speed changes through the year, so that is about 88 days but not exactly. The tool solves for the exact moment, and shows its date.
Does Human Design predict the future?
No. The positions are calculated, and the rules and descriptions are a tradition. Use them to think about yourself, not to learn what will happen.
Is it free, and is there a limit?
It is free and needs no account. The same birth always gives the same chart, so there is no daily allowance. To protect the server, the number of requests from one internet address is limited.
A note
The positions in the chart are astronomy: they can be calculated and checked. The rules that turn them into a Type or an Authority, and the descriptions, are a tradition of interpretation. Use them for reflection and entertainment. This is not science and not a prediction, and it does not replace medical, legal or financial advice.
